Light and Dark
Seeing, sources of light, using lights at night, seeing in the dark, shiny objects and reflections.
Electricity
Using electricity in our world, safety, circuit – bulbs and buzzers, mains and battery, using a torch, basic conductor / insulator work, where does electricity come from.

Sounds and Hearing
Environment sounds, musical instruments, ways of making instruments work, body movement and sounds, sense of hearing, fair test for distance hearing, danger sounds, ways of describing sounds.
Variation
To become more aware of the huge variety of living things within their local environment and of differences between them. They will learn that although individual living things are different there are similarities which can help to sort them into groups and that this is helpful.
Making observations, measurements and comparisons. Presenting findings in drawings and block graphs. Using results to draw conclusions.

Sculpture
Develop understanding of shape, form, texture and the sensory qualities of materials. Learn about the work of sculptors and about different kinds of sculpture, including those made of natural materials. Learn skills for arranging materials to make a relief collage and sculpture.
The Local Area
Develop geographical ideas and skills by studying their own locality. Collect and record evidence. Undertake fieldwork. Make maps and plans. Use maps. Use secondary sources. Children to relate understanding of science to environmental contexts and to consider how to treat living things with sensitivity.
