The Body & Healthy Living - looking at the major organs and how to stay fit and healthy.

Life Cycles – Looking at plants reproduce and seeds germinate

Solid, Liquids and Gases - What are the properties of solids, liquids and gases.  How can we change the states of matter.

Changing Sounds – How are sounds made?  How do we hear?  What is pitch and amplitude?

 

Space– Where are we in space, what causes seasons and the changing shape of the Moon? Includes a research project on a planet.

GEOGRAPHY

Maps and Mapping – How are maps made?  How do you use a map?  What is a grid reference?

The Environment – What is the environment?  We look at the effect of pollution and we take a close look rainforests.  It includes a trip to Marwell Zoo and a research project on animals.

Scotland – Comparing a town in Scotland with Shoreham.

HISTORY

Living in the Tudor period – Looking at the rise of the Tudors, an outline of the royal family and a more in depth look at Henry VIII

Comparing rich and poor Tudor lives.

The Victorians – What was Victorian life like? What were Victorian schools like? What countries were in the British Empire? What were working conditions like for Victorians?

 

Local Area History – History of Shoreham College. History of Shoreham beach and town. The Brighton Pavilion and West Pier. What will Shoreham College be like in the future?

Old Testament Patriarchs

 

An introduction to the beginnings of Monotheism. Pupils will learn about the beliefs and traditions of Abraham, Isaac, Esau & Jacob.

 

Pupils will also prepare for Harvest Remembrance Day & Christmas.

Pupils undertake independent research into slavery & famine.

Spreadsheets – How do they work, what are they used for?  We also use one to produce a budget for a class party.

 

Programming using LOGO – Through the adventure game Crystal Rainforest, children learn how to program a computer using the LOGO language.

Databases - What are they, how do you use one?  Children look at designing a database, how to search one and the importance of accurate data.

Exploring colour – How do we make different colours and different shades?

Looking at great artists – Van Gough – Who was he?  How did he paint?

Sculpture with Clay – Children make a thumb pinch pot, including designing, painting and evaluating our work.
