Visit by Sally Gunnell OBE - 06.05.10
Sally Gunnell at Shoreham_CollegeYear 7 to Year 11 had a real treat in assembly today when college parent Mrs Bigg, aka Sally Gunnell, gave an inspiring talk about her path to Olympic success, covering the highs and lows of that journey and giving a flavour of the commitment required, the importance of good nutrition and the right mental attitude.   It culminated in a film of that victory in the gold medal she won for the 400m hurdles in 1992 Barcelona Olympics. This was followed by a spontaneous round of applause from the children and she left them with the message that, whatever their thing was in life, to go for it and great things can follow. She very kindly left her gold medals from the Olympic games, World Championships, European Championships and Commonwealth Games which the children had an opportunity to handle for themselves, as did a number of staff. The picture shows Assistant Head, Sam Heard, making the most of the opportunity.
