20th January 2010 - U13 Rugby v Pennthorpe
A tough opposition to play in the first match of the season but none-the-less, team moral was high and we were confident that as the match progressed, team work would soon follow.

Initially Shoreham College played on the back foot and did their very best to absorb tackles as Pennthorpe continued to bombard the gain line. After constant pressure, The Forwards became sucked into rucks and mauls and left holes in the defence for Pennthorpe to score. At the end of the first half, Shoreham were trailing 0 – 31.

After a stern discussion at the half about aggression and commitment, Shoreham attacked the second half with more heart and for the first time, Pennthorpe found it hard to get out of their half. More and more, Matt Soloman (Captain) and Jason Scott, took the ball into contact with conviction and did very well to gain yards backed up by Joe Risbridger and Nick Harris.

Tom Wedge saw more of the ball and was able to feed James Monaghan which led to Sam Tuhey breaking the gain line and scoring a try under the posts from within his own 22 line which James Monaghan converted.

Overall, I was impressed with some aspects of the U13 team and am confident that with focussed training on Fridays, the team will make a dramatic turn around in performance.

Points to consider for the next fixture: Running with conviction at the gaps, Supporting/ offloading in contact, driving the legs when tackled and Forwards mobile to rucks and mauls.
