26th January 2011 - U11 Rugby v St Christopher's

Congratulations are due to the under 11’s who faced a strong St Christopher’s side today. Although the visitors started the game in a strong, attacking manner, scoring a few quick tries, our boys showed a great deal of courage to continue to battle throughout the game.

At the start of the game Shoreham were caught a little off guard by the pace of the attack and the running lines of the opposition. However, they did not give up. With some brave defending by all concerned, they fought back, but were over powered on occasion by one or two particularly elusive runners.

As the game continued, the boys became more focussed. The tackle rate went through the roof, forcing the visitors into a string of handling errors. Tackle of the match must go to Zachary Battle-Welch, who not only took out his man, but a flag post too (we won’t mention the damaged umbrella too Zack).

At points during the game, we showed the flair and pace that we know we capable of. On one of these occasions, in the second half, Captain (Piers Hamer), finished a wonderful piece of running by the backs, to score in corner. This was then converted, with ease, by Jacob Bizzel-Hawes.

The final score was 42-7 to St. Christopher’s. Although the score line seems high, it did not really reflect how closely the game was contested.

The boys played well and with a little more focus and concentration both in the warm up and at the start of the game the score line could have been very different.

Thanks you to Imran Ahmed, who stepped into the breach, to fill in at second row for us this week. He is new to the team and played with a great deal of enthusiasm and is learning continuously.

Thank also to all of the parents who came to support today. Next week we face Newlands in another home fixture. I look forward to seeing as many of you as can make it.
