| 9th February 2011 - U11 Rugby v Broadwater Manor |
|
Today the mighty Under 11’s had their first away fixture of the season, making the journey to Worthing.
Following a tip off, that we may have been too strong for the Broadwater team, in our regular format, we decided to experiment with the team a little this week.
The focus for this week’s game was to bring on the less experienced players and give them match practice. I was very impressed by the maturity of the more experienced players in helping the newcomers to settle into the team. All were very positive, stepping aside, to allow others onto the pitch and pointing them in the right direction, whilst playing.
The boys all played extremely well, and at times the teams seemed very well matched. Broadwater made many strong running attacks but were denied a score all afternoon by some solid defence, with tackle of the match going to Max Spicer.
In the end Shoreham proved too strong for the Worthing side, winning 33-0. The try scorers were: Piers Hamer (1), Ben Nash (1), Jake Solomon (1) and Noah Ridgeway-Brown, who despite only being on the field for 20 minutes managed to score 2 superb solo tries and convert both, earning himself man of the match in the process. Not bad for someone making his debut in the full back position! (Mention should also be given to Jacob Bizzell-Hawes, who managed to converted a further 4 points for us).
Thanks go, once again, to the parents who braved the mud and the cold to come and support. Our next fixture is on Wednesday the 9th March, when we host Brighton College. In the meantime we will be training hard, as this is likely to be a tough match!
Areas to work on: Driving positions in rucks and mauls. |
