5th March 2011 - ISA National Cross-country, Princethorpe College

On Saturday the 5th of March nine qualifying runners travelled to Princethorpe College, Rugby to compete in this year’s ISA National Cross-country Running Championships.  The race conditions were favourable with a dry course and a mild day with the temperature around 6 degrees; much more pleasant than the near freezing mud bath of last year’s event!

In the U12 boys’ event, Luca Bigg, of Year 5, finished in 6th position, two places higher than he did last year in the same event.  Luca qualified for the London South team several weeks earlier when he won the London South’s regional event that was held at Frewen College, in Kent, earlier this term.

Georgia Woolley, in Year 8, ran a very good race and finished in 4th place for the London South team and 35th overall in a field of 70 runners in the girls’ under 14 event.

In the Under 14 boys’ event, Marcus Law ran home in 18th place, whilst Finley Bigg and Oliver Davis-Smith crossed the line in 24th and 27th place respectively.

The under 16 boys’ London South team finished a very impressive third place of the seven regions taking place.  This is the best result a senior team has recorded in several years. Ryan Elson, Spencer Thomas and James Clouting were the College’s representatives in that team.  Ryan finished in 12th place while Spencer and James finished in 27th and 31st position.  Congratulations to those boys on the hard work last Saturday.

Elliot Box completed the line up of Shoreham College representatives.  Elliot, now in Year 11, was up against Year 12 and 13 boys in the Over 16 category and finished 22nd place in a field of over 50 runners.  Elliot deserves a good deal of praise for all the hard work and dedication he has shown over the past year with his training.

Our congratulations go to all our runners who took part in cross-country this year in both our ISA and inter-house events.
