9th March 2011 - U13 Girls Tag Rugby Tournament

Our annual Tag Rugby Tournament has come round again for the Under 13 girls. This is an event we have been going to for a number of years, where I take all the Year 8 girls for a fun afternoon together and have a complete change from Netball!

It was a glorious afternoon, and the girls armed with rugby boots and all, set off for Great Walstead School.  We had managed to have a couple of lessons beforehand in order to get them to pass backwards (this is always a major challenge!) and cope with running instead of stopping with the ball before passing (no comment here!).

On arrival, we warmed up with tremendous assistance from Mr Cox, who also refereed with one team and me with the second team.

Both teams took time to settle into their first game , but at the same time they gave it a real go.  All of them made contact with the ball and tried to support each other by being behind the ball, although this slipped up on several occasions by forward passing. Many of them made a real effort to surge forward without being tagged !

We competed against several schools including Ardingly, Great Walstead and Hurstpierpoint. We only managed to score a couple of tries, with a stunning one from Olivia Watts. We lost most of the games but it was exciting to also draw against two of them.  A terrific afternoon from all the Year 8 girls and as always at the end of the afternoon, I am asked if we could play some more matches!!

WELL DONE TO YOU ALL.
