22nd September 2009 - U14 Football v Shoreham Academy

This was the Team's first match of the season after a fantastic unbeaten record last year. As always, the Southern Area Schools League is a tough draw playing fixtures against much larger Schools but with true determination and self-belief, the Team started with high hopes.

The first half was a little disjointed as both teams struggled to find continuous passages of play, but after 15 minutes, the game settled down and some wonderful Football started to emerge. Andrew Trevis (Goalkeeper) was called upon to make some very heroic saves and all the team stood in amazement as Andrew threw himself at the feet of the opposition strikers. At half time the score was 0-0 and every player came off the pitch barely able to talk.

The second half proved more successful for both teams, but for very different reasons. Shoreham Academy scored after 5 and 7 minutes and Shoreham College were getting more stuck into tackles and moving forward with more conviction.

Luke Quincey showed super fitness and ran every inch of the pitch in search of the ball and Ross Ball never stopped directing his troops with positive comments. James Harrison, Callum Ritchie and Connor Strong all kept their shape in defense and linked well with Jake Robinson, David Boxall and Dan Cullen . Ryan Elson's job was to push forward to support Max Rummery ; who dropped to midfield and let James Clouting move forward.

Even though this match finished in a loss, the game was thoroughly enjoyed by all the spectators; the teacher from Shoreham Academy and I both agreed that the skills shown by both teams were well developed.

Final Score:
Shoreham College 0 Shoreham Academy 2
