Fantastic win for the U15 Shoreham College Rugby team against Lingfield Notre Dame considering they have only had one training session as we’re in the Football term. Andrew Trevis (Captain) led the team well and supported by Jack Hemblade (Pack Leader) they were fired up for the match.

From the kick off Shoreham dominated and quickly regained possession setting up a solid ruck for Jake Robinson to work from and with Ryan Scott and Ross Ball running from depth they both make formidable opponents to tackle. Ryan Scott broke through the gain line and Ross Ball’s dancing feet saw him over the line; Ryan Scott converted for the extra two points and Ross was to score again later in the half.

Moving the ball wider to Connor Strong proved to be a good plan and he too was over the try line to score in quick succession. Within the first half the Forwards continued to dominate the scrums, rucks and mauls which is a welcome sight for any player in the Backs as it means they’ll have the ball to run with.

James Harrison, Seb Day and John Williams all received the ball from re-starts and made super ground with their strength and speed to take Shoreham up to the half-way line. Tries for Shoreham were scored much wider on the field as we tried to move the ball out to the wings and Dillan Saunders, Connor Strong, Ryan Scott and Max Gardiner all scored at the corners; Max’s try came after being on the field for two minutes and it was his first touch of the ball. Andrew Trevis stepped up to take one of the conversions from outside the left post and struck the ball cleanly proving that front-row players can kick.

A tremendous spectacle of Rugby by every player in the team and I couldn’t be any prouder of their willingness to win the ball, tackle their opposite number and score points.
