Sir Peter Bottomley MP (Worthing West) and Tim Loughton MP (East Worthing and Shoreham) addressed a welcoming hall full of pupils at Shoreham College at the end of half-term. The pair were introduced by Mr Taylor-West, Headmaster, who then chaired the lively debate on whether the UK should remain in or leave the EU.
Tim Loughton opened with persuasive arguments as to why we should leave and Sir Peter Bottomley responded by highlighting the benefits of remaining. The floor was then opened up to a lively audience who asked a wide range of questions.
Mr Taylor-West said: 'It was wonderful to have two distinguished politicians with us explaining some of the ins and outs of the European question, if you excuse the pun. I was extremely proud of our pupils who asked challenging questions about European security, finance and exactly who should be 'let in' to Europe - entirely without prompting. Events such as these make politics come alive for our young people.'
