Shoreham College is immensely proud that two of our pupils have been selected to play for Brighton and Hove Albion FC after the FA Regional Talent Club (RTC) held open trials. After competing against over 300 other talented footballers Mary-Anna (age 9) was invited to sign for the U10 squad and Olivia (age 11) for the U12 squad. They train 2 evenings a week at the impressive Amex Elite Performance Centre at Lancing and have fixtures on Saturdays. Both are totally committed to their club and aim to reach the next tier for the Academy at U16.
Mary has loved kicking a ball since she could walk. It was through a chance meeting with one of the Brighton players that she was offered a trial at the training complex in Lancing. Amazingly she was offered a contract to join the Under 10 squad and has never looked back.
Becoming a professional player for Brighton Ladies is Mary’s dream and so she is very grateful for this opportunity to learn with the best coaches around.
This is now Olivia’s 4th season at the Albion. She was put forward for an open trial when she was just 7 years old. She was successful and given a contract for the Girl’s U11 team for season 2014/15. The U12 squad currently play against boys in the Horsham and District League and also play against other girl’s academies such as Arsenal and Chelsea.
The FA awarded Brighton & Hove Albion RTC tier 1 status in 2016, the highest level currently available in terms of the delivery of elite girls’ football development, and held by only twelve other clubs. This season saw a total of four players being selected by England, and nine players attend both regional and national performance camps.
