Year 6 History Project – Summer Term

We have been studying castles this term during history and soon have a visit to Arundel Castle. You have also been building a trebuchet in DT.

During the last week of term, there will be a year 6 castle siege where you will try out your trebuchets using pasta as rocks.

In order to do this, and to bring the whole siege to life, your task is to design and build a castle.

You will need to bring in your castle at the end of term (exact day will be provided nearer the time).

It is up to you what your castle looks like and what it is made from. In the past, pupils have used wood, plaster, papier-mâché and cardboard. I’ve even had an army mounted on the battlements! The only requirement is that your final castle should resemble a true medieval castle in the form of those that we have been studying, with the aim to keep out as much pasta which is bombarded at it as possible. You could include a motte and bailey, a drawbridge and moat, crenellations and machiolations, arrow loops etc. We will be looking at these things when we look at both siege defence and attack methods.

Please discuss this project at home and return the slip below to show that you have done this.

As always, if you need any ideas or help, please come and ask.
