7th February 2008 - Under 9 Football v Windlesham House - AWAY

On the run

Today it was the turn of the Under 9 football team to show their skills in a match against Windlesham House. It had been several months since the footballers of Year 3 & 4 had played together as a team and there was some concern that they might be a little rusty. This turned out not to be the case however! We were able to take the full squad as the oppositions fielded two sides. There were difficult decisions when it came to selecting the two teams, but last minute tactical switches saw Morgan Lyons between the sticks for the Bs and Sam Hotston-Tinè unleashed into midfield for the A side.

Both teams played some fantastic football that put the previous night’s England match to shame. Both teams played 10 minutes each way on the well prepared pitches in Windlesham’s beautiful grounds, and both teams managed to come away with convincing victories.

With a very strong line up and a new goalkeeper, the ‘A Team’ got back to winning ways with a fantastic performance, resulting in a convincing victory! A thunderbolt early on from Skipper Chris Martin set the tone which helped settle any nerves. At times, the football being played was beyond their years but did show the true potential in this team; this was illustrated when super star Amelia Ritchie dribbled to the touch line and picked out Max Spicer for a well taken volley…Unstoppable! Amelia then added to the score line with a fantastic effort of her own far too hot for the Windlesham keeper to handle.

Windlesham tired and Max Spicer took advantage running the defence ragged; a ball over the top gave Max a free run at goal, which he decided not to take. Instead, he unleashed a strike of real quality to the roof of the net! Despite conceding a goal somewhere along the way, it was a superb defensive performance from the Nash brothers, Ben and Harry, partnered with Chris Martin. There was a workman like performance from Sam Hotston-Tinè. The Skill and composure of Amelia Ritchie on the ball opened up the Windlesham defence for Max Spicer to cause havoc in front of goal as usual!

A fantastic performance with some wonderful goals, which I’m sure, was thoroughly enjoyed by all in attendance. Well done Team!

Final Score: Shoreham College 5 Windlesham House 1

The B Team, captained by Keelan Cole, scored no less than 7 goals in their match. Nicholas Bandar and Jacob Turrell did a fine job at the back in the first half, while Kieran O’Brien bamboozled the opposition with his fancy footwork. Keelan was playing the role of lone striker in this game and managed to net his first hat-trick for the school by half time giving Shoreham a 3-1 lead. He then added to his goal tally with yet another hat-trick in the second half. Super sub Andrew Huet scored one for himself just for good measure 4 minutes from full time to secure a whopping 7-1 victory for the team.

Final Score: Shoreham College 7 - Windlesham House 1
