| 19th March 2008 - Under 11 Rugby V Brighton College |
|
In their last game of the season Shoreham’s Under 11s Rugby Team set out on an impossible mission to challenge Brighton College. Despite a great team performance Shoreham found themselves on the wrong end of a 21-0 score line. The boys had a really positive start, and were determined to give Brighton a run for their money. Throughout the first 10 minutes the two teams exchanged blows tackle for tackle, pass for pass, and ruck for maul, until Brighton found a way to clamber through the Shoreham defensive line. A prompt conversion saw them take a 7-0 lead. Just before the stroke of half time, Tom Wedge made an impressive run down the flank, and with good support, this resulted in a ruck on the Brighton 22 yard line. Unfortunately however, Brighton turned the ball over and broke away to double their lead. The second half was an even tighter affair, until the opposition charged through our U11’s and just scored. Right at the end of the game we broke through their defence, right on their line, in a maul, Matthew Solomon passed the ball to Alex Loader who, unfortunately put a foot on the line, otherwise, we would have scored. After the match a proud Mr. Shelley said, “The score line doesn’t show how close the game really was.” We look forward hopefully to our next season, when in Year 7 the Shoreham boys can build on their flourishing performances this year.
