25th March 2008 - Under 14 Rugby V St Andrew’s

The last match of the season is always one to go out and win as it leaves all players with a positive feeling. Unfortunately this was not our day and after going into battle against St Andrew’s, we were the losing team. It was a crucial match since we had only lost one match in the Year 9 League to Angmering. The team had already met St Andrew’s in the Under 14 Tournament at Worthing RFC and had lost to them. Clearly this was going to be our chance to get our revenge.

As far as matches go, the first minute is to be forgotten. A clean catch by Tim Williams was then turned over and St Andrew’s scored a give-away try. However, if there is one thing we do well here at the College, it’s getting back into the game and making sure that we have learnt from our mistakes.

We quickly replied with some solid recycling of the ball and the Forwards worked very hard to move the ball towards the opposition’s try-line where a quick pick up and dive from Glen Bridson secured our one and only Try.

The team played some much improved Rugby and the Forwards dominated in the set-piece plays (mainly the Scrums) and showed excellent organisation and communication in the driving Mauls (this has been an aspect of the game which we have worked hard on). Our backs struggled to break through the St Andrew’s defensive line as they were up quickly and stifled our room to run. James Martin and Ben Bown worked hard together and supported our wingers; Matt Scott, Tom Kistruck and Adam Pickett.
