| 30th Sept 2008 - U15 Rugby v Brighton College (C/B) |
|
Ali Sparrow (Captain) showed great leadership from the very start taking the team for their warm up and his level of commitment was a clear indication of how the match would evolve. Shoreham College received the kick off and the forwards demonstrated their skills enabling us to consolidate possession and set up Glen Bridson with good clean ball with which to work.
Receiving the ball from Glen was James Martin (Fly Half) who time after time broke the gain line getting in behind the opposition before popping the ball to Big Ben Bown who can only be described as a steam train. Throughout the match the link between Glen, James and Ben was supported by Robbie Whitehead, Matt Scott, Tom Kistruck and Alex Williams who all showed their ability to make quick decisions.
The pitch was suited to our style of running rugby and all the Backs used the pass and loop move to create overlaps on every occasion which gave us width and advantage. Of course it is very easy to highlight the Backs ability to score tries when given width, but had it not been for the strength and communication throughout the Forwards we would have been so effective.
Ollie Newberry-Martin, Joe Spencer-Smith and Tom Welch created a very strong platform in the front row while Cory Vernon and Tim Williams provided leg strength and support at second row. Ali, Fenn Caddick and Andrew Flake were awesome as a mobile back row and always worked hard to get to the breakdown first and support the Backs in contact.
Overall a very pleasing result, and as their Coach I am very proud of the way they work as a team and support each other in every aspect of the game.
Final Score: Shoreham College 26 Brighton College 5 Most Valuable Players: Robbie Whitehead, Matthew Scott, Fenn Caddick
