2nd Dec 2008 - U15 boys Hockey v Lewes Old Grammar

The Under 15 Hockey team arrived at Lewes school on a very cold and windy afternoon. We were greeted with a very slippery field of Astroturf and the crown of falls needs to go to Ross Elderfield who must have slipped at least 5 times.

As a team it was only our second match, our first on Astroturf! Alex Tynemouth played very well in goal making some stunning saves especially when we thought that we were going to concede. Jack Walls played superbly making successful runs through the defence waiting to collect balls from Will Smithers, Ross Elderfield and Christian Rantzau, Jack was our most aggressive player (which pleased Miss Grant immensely). He never stopped running and never gave up on the ball despite being the second time he has ever played hockey and he was definitely man of the match - he broke a stick as well! (not one of his good moments).

The teams defence were the backbone to our game and were excellent during a large proportion of the match. Unfortunately on a short corner they managed to slot one right through our defence and straight into the back of the net, with only 3 minutes to go. Our defence consisted of Josh Hardy, Lee Knight and Daniel Cottey-Hill, They all played well but Lee Knight was definitely one of the best backs. We played very well as a team and left Lewes the losers with a score of 1-0 to them. Overall, it was a fantastic game, with all players playing as part of a team. Well done Boys and bring on the next game!

Forwards: Ross Elderfield, William Smithers
Mid-Fielders: Jack Walls, Christian Rantzau, Elliot Box, Daniel Cottey-Hill (mostly defence)
