Near perfect weather conditions with bright sunshine and a cooling breeze meant that there were to be no interruptions in play. Sompting Abbotts won the toss and decided to bat first. Coincidently, Jack Woods had decided to put Somting Abbotts into bat had he won the toss so things worked out well before the first ball had been bowled. Matt Jackson and Max Horney opened the bowling and pinned the opening batsman down to very few runs and after 6 overs Sompting Abbotts were only on 15 runs and had lost two wickets. James Hardy and Jack Woods continued to put pressure on the batsmen and took a further wicket leaving Sompting Abbotts 3/ 15. The batting seemed to settle down and Sompting Abbotts looked more comfortable with their score ticking over into the forties. David Boxall and Luke Quincey bowled valiantly but took no wickets so we decided that it was time for Cian Brittle and Stuart Allcock to see the rest off. Cian Brittle bowled fantastically well and showed excellent patience and focus taking a further 3 wickets leaving Sompting Abbotts at 6/ 52.. Cian Brittle really does have a natural talent and is able to replicate the famous Shane Warne leg spin. Stuart Allcock bowled with great speed and accuracy and in his second over he got his man out by LBW. After 20 overs Sompting had left us chasing 73 runs and it was time for Stuart Allcock and Dominic Kent to start us off. Watching those two bat is a wonderfully exciting thing, quick singles putting the fielders under pressure and bit boundaries leaving Sompting Abbotts wondering how to stop this batting performance. Stuart Allcock and Dominic Kent between them knocked up seven 4’s and three 6’s. Between them they scored 59 runs and Stuart was retired at 34. Matt Jackson came in and scored the winning run which meant that Shoreham College had won by 10 wickets and 12 overs. Fantastic performance all round from the boys and Jack Woods (Captain) was very pleased by everyone’s enthusiasm and focus. | BOWLING STATISTICS: | | Name | Overs | Runs | Wickets | | M.
