OSA Football Match – A Spirited Encounter

The day was wet; the sky was grey, but the clash on the pitch for the OSA annual football fixture was a colourful affair.

The players in purple were dominant from the start, and were 4-0 up in the blink of an eye. The combined might of players such as Ben Townley and Dan Phillips was too much for the men in black and white to countenance, in spite of brave efforts to scrabble back some control in attack form the likes of Jeremy Hersheson and Kieran O’Brien and some long range shots at goal from Jacob Bizzell-Hawes.

Ben and Dan playing for the College the purple strip were masterful finishers, putting the ball in the back of the net at every turn with class and composure. There was nothing that the keeper in the black and white could do. Even half a chance was converted beautifully by both players who bagged six goals a piece though it's fair to say the scoreline would have been higher but for Alex Marinko-Maeschler who made some fine saves. In the end, the College side simply had the bigger guns. One member of the college staff did manage to get himself a booking for an over-enthusiastic tackle, but we'll gloss over that as it happened to be his birthday.

James Boxford, playing for the OSA team must be mentioned as he did save one more goal from slamming into the net with a brave clearance from the touchline of his own goal, at full stretch. It must also be said that the OSA did manage a fine goal in the dying moments of the match to bring the score to a marginally more respectable 16 v. 1.

All in all, the match was a enjoyable event with some patches of purple play on both sides and all enjoyed a fabulous selection of hot drinks, cakes and sandwiches after the game. The Headmaster told the assembled squads at the tea, when presenting the trophy to Mr Shambrook: 'It was excellent to see you all here today; an energetic and spirited performance on both sides and it will be wonderful to see you all back next year.'
