5th May 2010 - U12 Cricket v St Aubyn's
Team Photo

A fantastic start to the season for Isaac Swan and his team with a win against St Aubyn’s. St Aubyn’s batted first and our primary objectives were to field aggressively to put pressure on the batsman and reduce the run rate and bowl accurately. Isaac Swan and Oliver Davis-Smith opened the attack and bowled four overs each taking one wicket. William Ballard and Ethan Crossweller then bowled and made a significant impact taking 5 wickets between them; four of which came from Ethan Crossweller. Henry Thornton, Luke Griffiths and Oliver Collins all bowled and took 4 further wickets. The fielding was tight and Gus Simon fielded the ball beautifully making a direct hit on the stumps to create a run out; excellent accuracy. Alex Kirby was solid behind the stumps and reduced the number of byes to keep the score down. He is showing good signs as a wicker keeper as he understands that it is vitally important to get his body behind his gloves. With regards to the fielding, I thought that the team missed some golden opportunities for more run outs and as a Coach I will target accurate throwing as part of the team’s development.

At the interval St Aubyn’s were 52 all out and it was Shoreham College’s turn to make contact with the ball.

Oliver Collins and Luke Griffiths opened and our priorities at this stage were to run quick singles and look for further runs rather than aim for boundaries. Oliver Collins batted with great maturity and scored 27 before getting out to and LBW. Luke Griffiths went for the big hit and was cleanly bowled. Isaac Swan and Oliver Davis-Smith saw out the innings and between them scored 35 runs in 20 deliveries.

Shoreham College won by 8 Wickets and I witnessed the start of a team who have great potential and promise to gel into a unit. Many thanks go to Luke Carr and Joe Coggins who both stepped in at the very last minute to make a team of 11 players.

Batsman of the Match: Oliver Collins

Bowler of the Match: Ethan Crossweller.

Final Results;

St Aubyn’s 52 for 10

Shoreham College 67 for 2.
