29th April 2010 - ISA Senior London South Regional Athletics Competition, Bromley – Kent
Shoreham College doing a Bolt

The school’s senior athletics team had a superb day out at this year’s regional athletics meeting winning medals in a number of events and finishing 2nd in the overall team competition.

The Year 7 boys’ and girls’ relay teams both ran excellent races with well rehearsed, silky smooth baton changes that saw the boys’ win gold and the girls just beaten into the silver medal position by Babington House School.

There was double success in the Welch family after brother and sister, Tom and Lily Welch both won their discus and shot put events and booked their seats on the bus up to the national finals on the 23rd June.  Tom, will be looking to repeat his success last year and defend his ISA National Championship title in these two events.

Other winners included, Finley Bigg, Year 7 800m, Long Jump.  Olivia Watts, Year 7 long jump. Oliver Davis-Smith, Year 7 shot put.  William Ballard, 70m hurdles.  Luke Quincey, Year 9 100m, 400m and the long jump.  Ryan Elson, Year 9 800m.  Ryan Scott, Year 9 Javelin.  Ashleigh Kirby, Year 11 Javelin.  The Year 7 boys’ winning relay team was made up of Henry Thornton, William Ballard, Oliver Davis-Smith and Finley Bigg.

There were other notable performances on the day from, Tom Wedge, who finished 2nd in the Year 9 80m hurdles.  Sophie Walls, who finished 2nd, 0.03 of a second behind the winner!  Elliot Box also managed the silver medal position in the Year 11 boys’ 1500m, as did Edward Nice in the Year 11 boys’ high jump with an impressive leap of 1.60m.

Team spirit was high throughout the day with all our athletes watching and cheering each other on with their events when not competing themselves; a delight to see.  Congratulations to you all!
