Last Tuesday Shoreham College took a team of 32 junior athletes to compete in the Independent Schools’ Association’s (ISA) London South Regional athletics competition. 20 schools from all over Sussex, Kent and South London took part at Norman Park athletics stadium in Bromley, Kent.
Pupils from Years 4, 5 and 6 at Shoreham College took part in a variety of track including sprint events over 60, 75 and 80 metres, distance events over 600 metres and field events such as the high jump, long jump, ball throws and the shot put.
After a wet start to the day, the skies cleared and the pupils enjoyed a full day of competition in the sunshine sporting their new track and field team T-shirts.
3 pupils were crowned ISA regional champions in their individual events; Amelia Ritchie of Year 6, won her under 11 girls’ rounders ball throwing event with an impressive throw of 38.75 metres. Amelia had also recently won Shoreham’s inter-house ball throwing event and had broken a long standing school record in the process! Luca Bigg, of Year 4, won his 600 metre race with a blistering time of 1 minute 52 seconds and Noah Ridgway-Brown in Year 5 also won the 600 metres in his age group. In winning their events these 3 pupils won a place in the team that will represent the London South Region at the ISA’s national event in Bedford on the 23rd of June.
