Welcome to Little Lions Pre-School
Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provision, Little Lions, covers the period of a child’s development and learning in the pre-school and reception classes. Whilst remaining very much part of Shoreham College, our friendly, caring provision has its own strong identity to which our youngest children relate. Little Lions develops the firm foundations on which children will build throughout their educational journey and beyond.
Our highest priorities are our children’s well-being and happiness. We believe children should be encouraged and supported to grow as unique individuals within a stimulating, safe, and secure environment. We understand every child has their own unique strengths and needs, and we work and communicate closely with our parents and families to ensure a deep understanding of each child and a holistic approach.
Early Years is an exciting time for children. This is their first experience of school, an opportunity to learn to work and play with others, a chance to discover new ideas and talents, and to develop their creativity, dexterity, and thinking skills. It is important to us that our children respect and value themselves and other people. In their learning, we encourage our children to be bold and independent (like lions), fearless in the face of a challenge, curious, thoughtful, resilient to setbacks, eager to try new experiences, have a go, and resolve problems. Our happy and inspiring learning environment supports a creative and vibrant curriculum.
In addition to our bright, airy classrooms, we make full use of Shoreham College’s excellent facilities, including our well-equipped sports hall and heated outdoor pool. Our learning spaces, both inside and outside, are adapted to meet the different and developing needs of our children, who have access to specialist teachers in music and sport, and spend a significant amount of time in the fresh air. Whether we are learning numeracy skills in our mud kitchen, leaf identification or climbing in forest school, or developing our storytelling skills, we nurture our children and encourage them to enjoy new experiences and to develop their potential.
