SCPA

Welcome to SCPA

Thanks for visiting our page!

SCPA was founded in 1981 to help raise funds for the school, which, at the time, had less than 200 pupils.

The Association has raised thousands of pounds over the years, which has been spent on various equipment and resources to enhance our children’s educational experience and the school’s facilities.

Our association is about much more than simply fundraising. SCPA exists to provide closer links between home and school and it is an excellent way to bring staff, parents and friends together socially in support of the school, working towards a common goal. It’s fun too!

All parents and members of the school community are encouraged to get involved, even if they only have a small amount of time available. All families are automatically members of the SCPA when their child joins our school.

Who are we?

Our Committee is:

Chair Charlotte Coe
Vice Chair Lisa Mundroina
Secretary  Rachel Neiman
Treasurer Carla Carr

We have children in Reception, year 3 and year 7

Our current committee has been in post since Autumn 2021

Meetings

We aim to meet twice per term at school where representatives from the school also attend and then as needed throughout the year, usually in advance of an event and more often than not, in the local pub. This can be just the committee members or include the wider volunteer group depending on what’s happening at the time.

Our Annual General Meeting is held in October and provides an excellent opportunity for all parents to come along and hear in more detail about our work, the events we have run, the funds we have raised and how the money has been spent. It is also when we elect our new committee members and confirm class representatives.

How we raise money

Like most PTAs, the majority of our funds are raised through the events that we run. Some of our main events are:

Welcome Back Mixer (September), Winter Fayre (November), Comedy Night (February), Quiz Night (May).

Donations are extremely important, and we don’t just mean cash (though that helps a lot)! You can donate time, money, items for sale, raffle prizes and auction lots or offers of services and skills.

We also run a school lottery, which is just £1 to enter, with a good chance of winning on a fairly regular basis!
For more information or to join up, visit our lottery page

We are also signed up to receive commission whenever you buy your children’s uniform labels from Stikins, using this link www.stikins.co.uk and School Fundraising Number 35843

How we spend the money we raise

The SCPA committee is responsible for deciding how its funds are spent. We ask the School’s Representatives to provide a ‘wish list’ of items that the school would like us to consider funding.

We also invite input from parents too, so if you have an idea of something that would benefit all the students in the school, please do share it with the Committee.

Funds are typically spent on the ‘extras’ that are not provided by the school’s budget, thus making our children’s learning experiences so much more fulfilling and exciting.

Some of the SCPA donations to the school in the past are listed below:

  • school defibrillator
  • contributed £20,000 towards the Forest school setup
  • Replaced the old sunken play boat in junior school
  • Laser Cutter for the DT Department
  • Funding the year 6 Bikeability course since the local council stopped funding it.
  • Ice creams for whole school on last day of term

How to help

Volunteer

Everyone has skills to bring, or maybe we can help you find one you didn’t know you had! From photography to bar service; events management to balancing the books; wrapping up lucky dip gifts to sharing facebook posts.

We are not currently on any other social media sites so if you know your TikTok from your Insta or you are marketing savvy, then we would love to hear from you!

We welcome any help from parents, teachers and friends, and we are forever grateful to the volunteers who commit some of their precious time to helping the association.

Every little helps, so just one hour of assisting at an event or its’ set up, would be invaluable. If you would like to join us, whether as a team member or an occasional helper, please speak to a committee member, come along to our next meeting or email us

Support

  • Sign up to our mailing list/ tell us how to improve our mail outs
  • Follow our facebook page and engage with our posts
  • Join our Lottery (it’s only £1 a go)
  • Buy your children’s name labels from Stikins (we get commission)
  • Come on down – run a bar, run a stall, donate a prize or just come and support our event – buy a ticket, bring a friend…

How we keep you up to date

We will usually provide any updates and requests in the weekly bulletin sent out by the school.

We use our facebook page to communicate short announcements and our newsletters are sent out by email to anyone signed up to our mailing list. They usually include more detailed information on upcoming events and dates plus details of any help needed.

We wish your children every success at Shoreham College.
We look forward to meeting you and receiving your support, ideas and proposals.
