Senior Curriculum

At Shoreham College, we believe that every child is important, unique and talented, and deserves an enriched and rounded education. Our broadly non-selective policy enables us to fulfil our commitment to providing an education to children of varied ability so that they can achieve their potential. Our children follow a broad curriculum, which is challenging and supportive in equal measure and shows them that, with hard work, they are able to achieve almost anything.

Ambitious for our children, we believe a true education includes and extends beyond excellent achievement. Committed to enabling every child to attain their academic potential, we strive to develop the skills and qualities they will need for confident success in their studies and lives. A beacon school for mindfulness, we instil in our pupils compassionate self-care and consideration of others. Happy children are successful children, and we foster a friendly, caring community with our children’s well-being at its heart.

Thinking skills and independent learning are cultivated through a broad variety of subjects, following the national curriculum. Our pupils develop resilience and confidence through experiencing success in a range of areas and through following their passions. We assist pupils in making the most of their abilities and in choosing a wide and balanced GCSE curriculum for which they are well prepared and supported. An exhilarating co-curricular programme, including forest school, charitable endeavours, and the Youth Parliament Democracy Awards, enhances our academic provision, allowing our children to expand their skills and experiences.

Our children play an active role in their learning, and we work closely with parents and pupils to set clear targets and ensure excellent academic progress. The Challenge Grade Reporting System informs parents of their child’s progress each half-term.

Effective preparation and the long-term cultivation of skills necessary for success help pupils to excel in public examinations. As the public examinations approach, we provide targeted revision sessions, workshops on examination technique, and comprehensive support for pupils’ well-being. Our sixth form exhibition and careers sessions educate pupils about their post GCSE choices, enabling them to make informed decisions and head confidently into their future lives.
