A huge thank you to everyone who attended the Junior School Book Fair back in October. Over £400 was raised to spend on new books for the Junior Library, which we are now pleased to share with you. These books will be available for the children to borrow within the next few weeks.

Ella in 7Ke has cleverly completed her CREST Award. Here she shares how she achieved that with her project ‘Fantastic Fingerprints’, in her own words: For our Crest bronze project we aimed to find out which powders were the best to pick up fingerprints and to see what surface they would show up on. Our plan: We pressed the fingerprint on one of the chosen surfaces e.g pebble. Then we got a soft paintbrush and dabbed it into one of the powders e.g. flour. Next, we gently went over the fingerprint with the brush and used sellotape to pick up the fingerprint and put it on to black paper to see the white powder. Our Project: we thought it was successful because we found out what type of powder was the best to use. Learning what type of fingerprints we have, like: simple arch, loop, whorl, and lots more. We think the impact on the wider world would be that we could give suggestions to the police for fingerprinting if they didn’t have their fingerprint kits. We very much enjoyed the CREST project and we would recommend it to anyone out there who wants to try their own investigation. A big thank you to the teacher in charge, Mrs Mardon. I enjoyed doing the CREST project because it was fun to try out our own experiments looking at things we hadn’t really thought about before. Ella Robinson 7KE

Year 6 took full advantage of being so close to the beach with a visit there providing a great hook into their new class book: Kensuke's Kingdom. Mr Batsone read the first chapter while they all enjoyed sea views and debated whether they would leave school/home to sail around the world (like the main character).

Years 1 and 2 enjoyed a morning of focus sketching in Forest School, and sawing wooden discs on which to draw wildflowers on the back.
