In DT, Year 10 have kicked off their new user-centred design project by analysing a range of pizza cutters.
What looks like a simple product quickly becomes a deep dive into ergonomics, anthropometrics, usability and sustainable design. From grip comfort and hand size to safety, ease of use and material choices, students are discovering just how many design decisions hide in everyday objects.
A brilliant hands-on way to explore how good design puts the user first. We can’t wait to see the creative and thoughtful outcomes that come next .
Forest Craft Club Creativity.
A huge well done to our brilliant Forest Craft Club this term!
The children have been busy combining bushcraft skills with creativity, using clove hitches, square lashing and natural sticks to build these beautiful rustic frames. Inside each one is their own artwork, created with pen and watercolour, inspired by the woodland around us.
A wonderful mix of practical knot-tying and artistic expression - and the finished pieces look fantastic!
This week, the Pottery Club learned how to create pinch pots and then developed their pieces using their own creative ideas. The pots will be bisque-fired in the kiln before being decorated with glazes. We’re excited to see the finished results in a few weeks’ time!
Our Year 10 pupils wrapped up their Bluetooth speaker project this week! 🎶
Their incredible work highlights dovetailing, comb joints, dowel joints, CAD design, and professional finishing techniques using manufactured boards. We’re so proud of the quality and creativity on display!
Year 1 enjoyed investigating everyday materials to see which were magnetic and challenged themselves to find out how many paper clips a magnet could hold. Great hands-on learning!
Our Year 8 pupils recently attended the “Get Inspired” Careers Event at Portsmouth Guildhall.
They had the opportunity to speak with representatives from a wide range of organisations and learn more about different career pathways and educational opportunities. A highlight of the day was taking part in a variety of engaging, hands-on activities that really brought learning to life.
