During half-term our Year 9s set off on an exciting and fun-packed 4-day trip to Spain!
Thanks to pupils Hugo, Isaac, Amelie and Felicity for the write up below!!
Monday - We all arrived at the airport at 3:15 am; incredibly tired but also incredibly excited for the trip. When we arrived in Malaga, our friendly tour guide, Pedro, met us and took us to the coach. After a while, the bus stopped at the historic cliffside city of Ronda, where there was a picturesque view of the rolling hills from the park. Finally, at the accommodation, Spark, we all settled in and had a delicious dinner. To finish off the wonderful day, we headed to the beach for games. We played rugby and everyone ended up being covered in sand.

Tuesday - We started with some exciting Spanish lessons, learning key words, the locations of important towns, and some thrilling history from our tour guide, Pedro. Then it was time for our excursion to Cádiz, one of my trip highlights. First, we journeyed up to the highest point in Cadíz with a breathtaking view of the whole of Cadíz before we went to the camera obscura, which uses magnification to look at the whole town in real time and was projected right in front of us. Finally, after spending free time exploring Cadíz and personally trying to find the best churros, we all danced in front of the beautiful cathedral to a talented saxophonist.
Isaac
Wednesday - We began our jam-packed Wednesday with a treat from a local cafe, Churros and chocolate. Next up, we had a rotation of Spanish lessons, Flamenco lessons, and cooking paella. We had Leo in a dress dancing his heart out, and a Spanish quiz. After we had eaten our homemade paella for lunch, we headed out on a bus to the shopping centre. There were so many different and interesting things to do, including an arm-wrestling station where Henry Burton continued to dominate the playing field. For our evening activity, we headed out for some Spanish cuisine consisting of a lovely tapas platter. To top off our fabulous day, we watched a flamenco dance and even joined in ourselves.
Amelie
Thursday - We went to Seville after a very early lunch in a gorgeous park where we were greeted by an army of ducks consisting of Tyrone the hungry duck and Tony the bully of the group. We then saw the Cathedral de Seville, where the tomb of Christopher Columbus lay with a pomegranate placed on the top of it. We then went to the Royal Alcazar, where the King of Spain used to live, and his garden was full of beautiful peacocks (Apparently, when he was a Prince, Miss Spinks met him when she was living in Madrid). Then we had free time, where we all ran to a shop called Ale-hop, which was a fan favourite for everyone.

Year 10 have successfully completed the first of many skills-based DT projects.
These projects are specifically designed to give pupils real, hands-on experience working with a range of equipment, tools, machines, and processes.
Throughout the year, they’ll continue to build their “knowledge box”, which they’ll showcase in Year 11 through their portfolio work, when they design and make their very own product.
In this project, they learned about the manufacturing process of laminating, further developed their skills in soldering, CAD/CAM, and even did a little sewing to keep them on their toes.
Excellent work, Year 10! On to the next exciting project, which will be completed in early January.
Years 10 and 11 visited Brighton Doubletree Hilton Metropole and enjoyed a full day of practical workshops including mocktail making from a mixologist, a housekeeping competition 'who can make a king sized bed the quickest & neatest' towel art, had a talk from the Executive chef and their marketing team and finally, a tour of the hotel including the spa facilities, a £500 a night family room, and the restaurant.
All students were given a goody bag and enjoyed a Hilton signature warm cookie 🍪
Atticus won a prize for the most inspiring student on the day and for making a good impression on the hospitality team.
Year 10 pupils have made an excellent start to their GCSE Art course, diving into the fascinating theme of life and death examining skulls, skeletons and flowers.
🧟♂️🏮Years 3 and 4 enjoyed a fantastically spooky Halloween party at the end of half-term 👻🧟♀️ Thank you to the fabulous Shoreham College Parents Association for organising.
