The potters have worked hard over the last few weeks designing and creating their pinch pots. They were bisque fired in the kiln and then painted using a variety of glazes. The results were stunning and all the children were very pleased with their results.
Day 3 in Iceland and we were up at 5:30am to start our journey to Solheimmajokull to participate in a glacier walk. The views along the way were simply breathtaking and the glacier magnificent. We split into three groups where each group did a slightly different activity as we ascended the glacier, which ranged from walking through tight crevices, descending into an ice cave and hanging over a moraine! On the way back we visited The Black Beach and some stunning waterfalls.
Day two in Iceland has not disappointed! We started our morning with a visit to the geothermal power station where we sat in awe and wonder learning all about how energy is harnessed from the earth. Stop two was a lovely and relaxing dip in the geothermal pools of the Secret Lagoon. Stop three lead us to the absolutely amazing sight that is the Gullfoss waterfalls. A truly breathtaking sight! Stop four gave the pupils an opportunity to feed some very cute and little Icelandic horses. Some of the pupils (Mr Connors!) were brave enough to feed them! Stop five was the Great Geysir where we waited and watched to see how the earth can create a natural eruption of water and steam. Our final destination was the Thingellir National park where we had the opportunity to walk between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Phew! What a lot we have fitted in! We are all looking forward to tomorrow’s adventure where we will be walking a glacier!
