We had a fun day experimenting with chromatography. We researched how this technique is used in forensic science and found out that this method was used to prove if Hitler's diaries were real. We then investigated which pigments are found in inks and which pigments are found in the various plants from around the school. Finally, we used our creativity and chromatography skills to personalise a t-shirt and lab coat. A lovely fun day of science, enjoyed by all.
A wonderful day for our Year 9 and 10 golfers at the stunning Singing Hills Golf Course in Albourne. Pupils enjoyed a coaching session from a professional in the morning before some headed to the golf course themselves while others enjoyed the virtual experience. I was so impressed with the quality on display and the progress made others who were first timers in the driving range. Our pupils were treated to a very tasty lunch before enjoying the afternoon's proceedings.
The kitchen has been busy during enrichment week with Year 7s creating delicious bakes themed around the Great British Bake Off, and Year 8s visiting different countries and cultures via their food!
Year 7 spent their second day of Enrichment Week immersed in a History-themed community experience, honouring the lives of local war heroes.
The day began with a guided tour of the First World War graves at Brighton’s City Cemetery, led by Sarah Nathaniel from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Her expert insights brought to life the stories of soldiers from the local area.
In the afternoon, students delved deeper into the lives of these individuals, conducting their own research before creating paper tributes to commemorate the fallen.
A huge well done to Year 7 for your mature attitude, curiosity, and respectful conduct throughout a moving and memorable day.
We started the day at the beautiful Saltdean Lido. Undeterred by the drizzle, the Year 9 and 10 pupils all jumped in and proceeded to swim, splash, bomb, paddle and handstand in the outdoor pool. After a short time to relax on the sun loungers, we were off to Brighton. There was a change of pace as we were dropped off by the Palace Pier on Brighton seafront. They had worked up an appetite so enjoyed their lunch on the rooftop restaurant overlooking the beach. And the sun came out. Next activity was the Zipline. With harnesses and helmets, pupils headed up the spiral staircase to reach the platform at the top. The view was spectacular and the adrenaline was pumping. Would anyone have to go back down the stairs? The answer was no. All 20 pupils took their turn to hurtle down the Zipline with huge smiles on their faces. Back to the base, a quick ice cream, then back to College. A brilliant day out!
Huge congratulations go to Emma in Year 7 who recently competed in the Wessex Regional Surf Life Saving Championships in Bournemouth.
Throughout a range of events that test the skills and fitness of lifeguards in both pool and ocean settings Emma returned with a huge haul of medals.
She won silvers in the board race, sea swim race, golden nipper, board relay and board rescue; and a bronze in golden nipper relay. What a fantastic achievement!
