Raising Funds for Homeless

Shoreham College pupils, their families and staff joined in the Off the Fence Charity fundraiser ‘Woolly Hat Day’ last Friday, raising a whopping £1230!

All pupils were invited to wear woolly hats during online lessons – whether sitting at their desks or out doing their exercise – in return for a small donation to a Shoreham College Just Giving donation page.

Shoreham College has historically collected for Off the Fence through Harvest Festivals and was looking for some other way to help the less fortunate in the current climate.

It was one of our young Year 7 pupils Olivia, who inspired us, addressing her form in an online assembly about the Charity that she and her family are passionate about.

Mrs Sam Jangles, Assistant Head (Key Stage 3) was moved by Olivia’s message, “Olivia’s compassion and drive ignited a spark in my heart and I decided that in this time of need we should continue to support Off the Fence, as we have done before. We set up an online Just Giving page, setting a target of £360, but wow, our community has blown us away by their generous donations, £1230, what a response. A massive thank you to everyone.”

Mrs Bakhtiari, Principal, was overjoyed with the response to her first Charity fundraiser since joining the College in the New Year.

“We are so proud of our pupils who take every opportunity to think about those in our local community who are vulnerable and also to think about what they can do to make a difference to their lives. This is another superb example of a pupil-led initiative that has a demonstrable positive impact. Other examples include corresponding with the residents of a local care home for the elderly, who were feeling isolated because of the Covid restrictions, and working with a local therapy dog, who was missing his pat dog duties with Alzheimer sufferers, also due to Covid restrictions.  I could not be prouder of our young people and the way in which they make a positive impact in our local community.”
