Leading independent day school Shoreham College, is delighted to announce the appointment of Mrs Sarah Bakhtiari as its new Principal from January 2021.
The appointment follows the departure of Richard Taylor-West after five successful years at the College. Kathryn Stokes is currently Acting Headmistress until Sarah Bakhtiari takes up her position in the new year.
Sarah has strong links within the community, studying for a BA and MA at the University of Brighton, and then teaching locally for twenty years. She spent 17 years at the world-renowned girls’ boarding school, Roedean, as a teacher, Head of Department and Head of Key Stage 3. She joins us from her current role of Co-Principal and Director of Welfare at Bellerby’s College, Brighton.
In response to her appointment, Mrs Bakhtiari said, “It is a huge privilege to be the next leader of Shoreham College. I look forward to meeting the children and working alongside the dedicated Shoreham College team and the parents for the benefit and welfare of all pupils.”
The Governors recognised that Sarah, with her wealth of pastoral and educational experience was the perfect fit for the supporting and nurturing ethos of Shoreham College. She is also the first female Head in the 168-year history of the College.
Married with 3 children, Sarah loves to travel, read, walk and wholeheartedly enjoys the theatre.
We are confident that Sarah will bring a new passion and drive to the school.
“I am eager,” she states, “to become a part of the Shoreham College community, to understand what it is that people love about the school, what they find most important, and use that to further build upon its current success.”
